UNDERLAND PRESS is always keen on previously unpublished novel-length works of science fiction, fantasy, dark fantasy, and noir mystery with a tinge of otherworldliness. We don't mind slipping into horror, but prefer it to remain more psychological and strange than gore-filled. We are not terribly rigorous in our definitions of these genres. We prefer character-driven pieces but don't mind being kept up late due to a tightly wound, plot-driven book.

We are actively interested in submissions from writers of underrepresented communities, including, but in no way limited to, writers of any gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, nationality, class, and physical or mental ability. Underland Press believes in the rich potential and diversity of humanity, and seeks to have that belief reflected in the catalog.

At this time we are NOT looking for short fiction collections, novella-length material, first books in series, Young Adult (YA) or Middle Grade (MG) material, and works that have been previously self-published. We will—in all likelihood—bounce submissions that fall into these categories. Additionally, we are not seeking foreign-language submissions that would require translation into English.

In more concrete terms: novels should be between 75K and 100K in length. Submission format should be .doc, .rtf, or .pdf. Please submit them to with a brief cover letter that hits the highlights.
